Sir,
Economics has been described as the dismal science, and I think it is dismal of Saul Eslake to confidently claim in his reported comment on the improvement in the States’ budget (The Mercury Friday 26th) that “the Government hasn’t done anything that has made the result better……” . South Australia and Tasmania were described as economic basket cases until recently; South Australia is still in the basket. Deregulation always fosters economic prosperity.
